On Jan 1, 2020 I started my burg log!

I’ve always been a little obsessed with logging and archiving — probably due to my shaky memory. I use photos to remember like, everything. I also love cheeseburgers, and at some point I thought it’d be fun to start collecting them — noticing all the differences, seeking out historical spots, and checking out new ones popping up. It became an excuse to explore, whether that meant driving hours to some dive bar or just discovering more of my own backyard.

A few weeks into the project — a burg a week — the pandemic hit and shut down indoor dining here in Chicago. So I started ordering takeout when I could, partly to keep the project going and partly to help support my fav spots. I logged 52 that year and just never stopped.

The goal was never to find “the best burger.” It was to experience cities and towns through food. That food just happens to be cheeseburgers!
